If the 100E Displays E-38 when inserting a timecard or document, the print head motor or the card sensor cannot operate properly. The 100E should be located in a clean environment. Error E-38 will result if excessive dust or other pollutants settle on the sliding rails of the printer and jam the mechanism. This could also occur when the ribbon is not seated correctly in the 100E. The solution is to:
- Remove and reinsert the ribbon.
- Press the push bar on the front of the time recorder.
- Verify the time recorder's environment does not have excessive dust or other pollutants.
This should clear the E-38 error. If the problem persists, the sensor that detects the print head has malfunctioned, dust or other pollutants settled on the sliding rails of the printer or the print head's motor has malfunctioned. The time recorder must be repaired.
