Overview
We’re excited to introduce Mobile Geofencing in PayClock Online!
This new feature allows you to set up geographic boundaries around your work locations. When employees clock in or out using the mobile app, the system checks whether they are within the assigned area.
- Works with mobile app punches only
- No additional cost for current customers
- Helps improve time tracking accuracy and accountability
Before You Begin
Make sure the following requirements are met before setting up geofencing:
- Mobile GPS Requirements are enabled in system settings
- Employees are using the latest version of the mobile app
- Location services are enabled on employee devices
How Geofencing Works
You can choose how strictly geofencing is enforced:
Require Geofence to Punch (Strict)
- Employees must be inside the geofence to clock in/out
- Punches outside the area are blocked
Require Geofence If Available (Flexible)
- Employees can still punch outside the area
- Punches are flagged for review
How to Set Up Geofencing
Step 1: Enable Geofencing
- Go to System Settings
- Select Mobile
- Enable Mobile GPS Requirements
- Choose your geofencing mode:
- Require Geofence to Punch
- Require Geofence If Available
Step 2: Create a Geofence
- Go to the Geofencing section
- Click Add Fence
- Enter a Geofence Name
- Enter the full address (including zip code)
- Set the radius:
- Minimum: 100 meters (328 feet)
- Maximum: 1 mile (1,609 meters)
- Click Save
Step 3: Assign Employees
- Go to the Assignments section(Under Geofence settings when creating or editing a fence)
- Select employees, departments, or locations
- Save your changes
Note:
- Employees can be assigned to multiple geofences
- If they are inside any assigned fence, they can punch
Employee Exceptions & Overrides
If an employee has GPS accuracy issues:
- Go to the employee profile
- Navigate to Access > Details
- Adjust the geofence radius for that employee
This only affects that individual—not the entire fence.
Viewing Punch Locations
You can review where employees clocked in/out:
- Open the employee time card
- Use the GPS flyout view
Map indicators:
- Green circle = Geofence area
- Orange marker = Employee punch location
Helpful Tips
- Always enter the full address with zip code for best accuracy
- Avoid using “Use My Current Location” when setting up fences
- Zoom in on the map to confirm correct placement
Important Notes
- Geofencing applies to mobile app punches only
- Web and physical clock punches are not affected
- Geofences are circular only (no custom shapes)
