The motor on a Lathem Mechanical Time Recorder can be easily replaced. If the Time Recorder has stopped working when it is plugged into power, is making a high-pitched screeching or a loud humming/roaring noise or if the motor is running hot, it must be replaced. The motor is available on our online store. For the battery powered 2100 Mechanical Recorders, the motor must be ordered by phone at 404-691-1064. The part number is SAM1151.
To change the motor:
- Disconnect the time recorder from AC Power.
- Unlock the case cover and pull it forward to remove it. Wait until the clock clicks.
- Disconnect the time recorder from AC Power.
- Unlock the case cover and pull it forward to remove it. Wait until the clock clicks.
- Press either side of the Type Section Headlock (1) to unlock the clock face from the frame.
- Pull upward on the lower part of the clock face.
- Remove the Type Section Retaining Ring (2).
- Lift the type section slightly and move it to the right to release the Hinge Pins (3) from their sockets. The type section unit will lift out.
- Disconnect the Motor Wire Leads (1) by turning each Screw (2.2) 1/4 of a turn counterclockwise.
- Remove the Motor Clutch (3) from its shaft. The shaft has LEFT HAND threads. Remove the clutch by turning it clockwise.>
- Hold the Motor Bracket (4) and loosen the Motor Mounting Screws (2.5). Remove and retain screws and bracket from old motor.
- Attach the Motor Clutch (3) onto the new motor. Turn it counterclockwise to tighten it to the shaft.
DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN OR BEND THE CLUTCH TO AVOID DAMAGE TO THE INTERNAL MOTOR GEARS. |
- Install new motor.
- Connect the Motor Wire Leads (1) by turning each Screw (2.2) 1/4 of a turn clockwise.
- Hold the Motor Bracket (4) to keep the new motor in position.
- Insert and tighten the Motor Mounting Screws (5).
- Insert the Type Section back into place. Make sure the Hinge Pins (3) plug into their sockets.
- Install the Type Section Retaining Ring (2).
- Set the punch time on the time recorder.
- Set the face time on the time recorder.
- Lower the type section into place.
After the time recorder is reassembled, the time recorder should be ready for normal use.
