E-38 Error Displayed On The 7500E

The 7500E calculates worked time between punches and accumulated totals on the card for a pay period. If the time recorder displays E-38 when inserting a card, there could be debris in the card slot preventing the print head or print sensor from operating correctly to print on the card. The time recorder should be in a clean environment. Error E-38 will result if excessive dust or other pollutants settle on the sliding rails of the printer and jam the mechanism. This could also occur when the ribbon is not seated correctly in the 7500E. To correct the problem:

1. Remove and reinsert the ribbon to make sure it is properly inserted.
2. Verify there is no timecard or debris jammed in the card slot.
3. Verify nothing is blocking the print head from moving.
4. Verify the time recorder's environment does not have excessive dust or other pollutants.

If the problem persists, the 7500E must be repaired.
